We will have the pleasure to listen to Jeremie Brugidou (senior fellow at IMERA (Aix Marseille Univ) in a joint seminar MATIN/3T, on "Life and Death of a Bioluminescent Bacteria: what partnerships can we invent with luminous organisms?"
"Through a theoretical, historical, experimental and science fictional approach, I propose to reflect on the links that unite us with these other living beings that produce light."
Jérémie Brugidou is an artist-researcher exploring the field of environmental humanities, particularly underwater. He is currently a senior fellow at imera (Aix Marseille university).
His research-creations have been funded by the Balzan and Camargo foundations, IMéRA and Labex Les Passés dans le Présent. He is the author of the novel Ici la Béringie (éditions de l'Ogre, 2021), and a theoretical work based on his thesis, Vers une écologie de l'apparition : cinéma et bioluminescence (Mimésis, 2022). He is also co-director of two feature-length documentaries, Bx46 (FIDMarseille, 2014) and Poacher's Moon (Festival Jean Rouch, 2022), co-creator of a live cinema piece, Les guetteuses (Mondes Nouveaux, 2022), and designer of underwater bioluminescent installations (IMéRA 2022-2025). His work unfolds through a cross-disciplinary creative approach, in particular with bioluminescence.
Francesca Nardi is a PhD candidate in “Literary and Philological Cultures” at the University of Bologna. Her fields of expertise are contemporary Italian literature and Environmental Humanities, focusing on the discursive-symbolic and politico-social dimensions of literary representations of places and environmental dynamics.
Her current research focuses on the concept of submersion, as a form of “slow violence” directly connected to the aquatic element, on which ecological, social, political and poetic issues converge. Drawing on a selection of texts that are heterogeneous in terms of genre and authorship, the relationship between ecological thought and literary criticism centers on the theme of work as a system of production and re-production of the dynamics of territorial, social and discursive exploitation and domination.
Drawing from her back-ground of studies and experiences, she is also interested in interdisciplinary and team-based research methodologies, and in the dialogue between academic research and artistic creation.
