MATIN TransitionS Seminar: Luka Perkins Petit
On the 12th of December, we will have the pleasure to open our new MATIN TransitionS seminar series with an intervention by Luka Perkins Petit on "Parasol : speculative photography and geoengineering"
Luka Perkins Petit (2000, FR) is an artist working at the intersection of science and photography. Blending speculative inquiry with experimental procedures, his practice draws on photographic phenomena, image alterations, and documentary archives. He is specifically interested in weather modification and geoengineering as a capitalist-surrealist reaction to the climate crisis, as well as other ways we react to pathologies on the individual and the collective scale - those areas where alchemy and reason coexist within a 'cure'.
His work has been funded by the French Institute and the Goethe institute, and has been helped by Art-Cade and Les Ateliers Jeanne Barrett in Marseille. With a background in film and experimental cinema, Luka Perkins-Petit graduated from the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in 2021 with a degree in cinema and media arts, and worked as a director and assistant director. Currently, Luka is completing his master's degree at the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles, while collaborating with Palais Books on his debut photo book about geoengineering, slated for release in 2025.
